St. John's Wort has been traditionally used and studies have shown that it may be (darn) good for
a nervous system tonic, so when you suffer from nerve (like sciatica) or muscle pain, this helps.
It also improves mood and enhances cheer…and who doesn’t want that!
For ailments (like eczema) that may be caused by stress, this tea is for you!
Drink up to 2-3 cups throughout the day and let the sun shine in!! The flavor is slightly ‘barky,’ not that I go around licking trees…but that’s the best way I can describe it!
Here's a yummy recipe:
Bring water to a boil (turn off stove), add 2 teaspoons of St. John’s Wort and cover, so that the tea releases it’s full potential!
Steep for 10 minutesfor a milder-tasting and less bitter infusion. For a more effective medicinal ‘brew’, steep for 30 minutes.
Strain, add honey, vanilla and dust with cinnamon. Ahhh.
This herb also blends well with:chamomileandlavenderto help calm your spirits;lemon balmto calm your nerves.
Please be aware, St. John’s Wort may increase sensitivity to sunlight, and can contradict contraception.
Also, do not drink St. Johns Wort while taking medication for depression and ask your Doctor if pregnant or breast feeding.
St. John's wort has more contraindications with medications than most other herbs. Check out https://www.cloverleaffarmblog.com/st-johns-wort-drug-interactions-contraindications/2013/05/ for a list of prescription drugs that you should not take when drinking St. John's Wort.
